chin’s farewell – keng eng kee restaurant

This time round we have a bigger bash for Chin’s farewell, and at the same time, we were celebrating Kelly’s birthday. And we got to do it at Keng Eng Kee.

A couple of friends tried the food at Keng Eng Kee, and they loved it and been raving about it. The must have dishes – salted egg crab and Marmite chicken.

Salted egg crab

The salted egg crab truly did not disappoint me. The rich and thick layer of salted egg over the crab was divine. If you like the subtle flavour of crabmeat, I would strongly advise you not to order this dish. There is nothing mild about this dish – the flavour was rich, savoury and overwhelming. And it helped when I am a fan of salted egg.

Marmite chicken

For the Marmite chicken, I suspected that the chicken was deep fry and then covered in Marmite sauce which provided a caramelised coating. The sauce was a combination of sweet and salty – actually it was on the sweeter side hence I still prefer the crab.

Fried calamari

Stir-fry spinach

Like every visit to a seafood restaurant, some of the staple dishes we would order include fried calamari, fried mee sua and vegetable which were all pretty good.

Drunken prawns

However one dish that totally exceeded my expectation was the drunken prawns. The broth was winey, warm and amazingly packed with flavour – if not I have to share the dish with 9 other people, I would drink the entire bowl of soup.

Group shot

Overall the food at Keng Eng Kee was really good. We all had a good time eating, catching up and bid our farewell to Chin. And last I heard, she is doing very well in California. I miss her!
