recently i had a pretty lousy meal at oriole – de starter – spicy calamari sucks to the core. the batter was soggy, the calamari were overcooked and the spices were rather choking. and my usual favorite mains – fish and chips and beef cheeks tageliatelle fared poorly too. they were not up to de usual mark. de only thing that made me slightly happy that day was de coffee.
thus it took quite a bit of me to try oriole again. de biggest reason why i went there is because of de happy hours – yes i am that cheap. ha.
de wines were at pretty good price of S$6.50 a glass during happy hours. we ordered a main each – i was having de capellini crabmeat and l had de scallop risotto.
de capellini crabmeat was great (finally). de paste was not overcooked (pet peeves of mine). de use piquillo peppers were good as they did not overpower de delicate flavor of de crab. since its cooked in aglio olio style, i do appreciate de extra kick in this dish.
l’s scallop risotto was great too. i had 2 bites – de risotto was well cooked and nice and creamy. i think basalmic vinegar was also added to de risotto which was great as it cut through the richness of this dish.
overall i am glad to say that oriole still have some great food and of course, one of de best coffee in singapore.oriole bar and cafe 96 somerset road #01-01 pan pacific serviced suites +65 6238 8348 1130am – 1100pm (note: my first visit to oriole)
